Top three Florida state parks list

A Florida travel blog has come up with a list of three, "don't miss" campgrounds in the Sunshine State. The interests of the three parks cross a wide spectrum, whether you're a history nut, a water-lover, or even enjoy going underground, there's a little something for everyone.

Chris Hamilton, who describes himself as an avid hiker and camper, posts to floridaoutdoorsrv.com. Here's a summary of his top suggestions:

One of Florida's oldest parks, O'Leno State Park traces the history of central Florida. Hikers can enjoy a walk along the Santa Fe River, check out a suspension bridge, or get the boots off and kayak or fish. Hamilton gives insight on choosing one of the park's two campgrounds.

One of Florida's busier parks, Wekiwa Springs, is said to be a great summer-time retreat. With a year-around water temperature of 72 degrees, the springs are pretty attractive when the heat index jumps higher than gas prices during a busy travel season. Great too, for biking and hiking.

Finally, to go underground, go northwest of Tallahassee to the Florida Caverns State park. Several limestone caverns offer visitors the opportunity to do a little cave exploring. If you feel that maybe underground explorations are a bit hemming in, then check out the water-based opportunities provided by the Chipola River. And there's plenty of wildlife viewing to be had.

Check out all of Chris' observations here.
