Snowbirds flocking to Florida--best season in years

Florida RV park owners are reporting higher than average occupancy rates this year, after a couple of years of static figures. Guess who's coming to recreate? While the old standby crowd, retirees, are still steady, pumping up the action are Baby Boomers. After a couple of years of 60% occupancy rates, park owners are projecting a high season of 80% of capacity.

In a story reported by Florida's Bradenton Herald Florida RV park owners are reporting the best season in several years. "We’re definitely seeing an uptick," said Bobby Cornwell, executive director of the Florida Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds. "The parks really rely on winter season to get them through slow times. Luckily, the snowbirds and baby boomers are coming."

From where are they coming? Florida's 800 RV parks say they're largely coming from Canada and Great Lakes states. Not only do the visiting 'birds bolster RV park owners' bank accounts, they're also pumping up the state economy as they buy gas, eat at restaurants, and hit other tourist traps.
