Winter Garden adds new municipal park with camping

Winter Garden, Florida officials are looking to a new park for the city that will include camping. The city dads spent over $2 million to buy the old Tucker Ranch, once a part of a country club, with eyes on operating a 200 acre municipal park slated for opening in 2014. They'll need to come up with another $2.5 million to complete their project, which they think can be done with grants, fees, and general fund revenue.

In addition to camping, fishing, and scenic trails will fill the recreational draws, but before the tourists are welcome, there's plenty of work to be done. Invasive plant species will need to be evicted, while setting out the welcome mat for native wildlife will be a priority, along with revamping existing camp sites.

The new park will run from the south of the Florida Turnpike as far as the north shore of John's lake.
